I ordered Stranglers of Bombay years ago, took 2 months to arrive, but
my credit card was not charged until it shipped. Site has been there at
least ten years , I`ve seen the odd complaint about him , but not
anything serious. SD

Nothing in particular. I just browsed the selection there and found a
number of interesting items I'd never seen available before.

Never heard of them but will add them to my search lists. They have
listed "Against the
Wind" (UK - 1948) which is on one of my lists. However, my local library
system also
has it and I will order it.

After I run out of "free" options for films, I generally turn to
Internation Historic Films:
http://www.ihffilm.com/ and Belle and Blade:
http://www.warshows.com/StoreFront.bok
to purchase copies. eBay is a last resort because so much on offer is
pirated off the
air - although that may be the only way to obtain a rare film.

I have.

It took him eleven weeks to ship me three DVDs, and I was continually
advised via e-mail (which he answered with admirable promptness) that the
shipment would arrive "in toto" as soon as his suppliers came through with
the more difficult-to-find titles. I DID get everything I wanted, though it
took rather longer than I expected (Saskatchewan isn't all THAT far from
Wisconsin!). To his credit, he does stipulate on his website that standard
shipment is generally six weeks.

Quality varied sharply from excellent to muddy, but I chalk this up to the
scarcity of some of the titles (without going into detail, I asked for
sample episodes from three very obscure TV series of the 1960s--a few of
which I needed as research for my current book project). Clearly, he must
get his stuff from whatever sources he can find, and collectors can't always
be too choosy. Overall, however, I was satisfied, and there weren't any
technical problems with the DVDs themselves.

I'd say "go ahead" if he has something you need and can't find elsewhere (I
intend to order again sometime in the future). Just don't expect to receive
anything in a hurry.

Hal and Jim, thanks for this source... it's going to be a huge help for
me (and a huge drain on my wallet, but that's what research is all about,
isn't it?)

Well, I may have spoken too soon. Anyone have any really good hard to
find movie/tv show places to recommend? I've tried a few which were
recommended here but I am having no luck with a few titles. (Primarily
"The Bold Ones", but that's a TV show which is technically off topic.)

I got stuff from this guy and I love his service
http://moviesvideoman.bravehost.com/

you email him
tell him what you want
he'll email you back
and tell you if he's got it ot not
or if he can find it for you,
or look through his list...
http://moviesvideoman.bravehost.com/

then when you order
he delivers fast!
He sends you a tracking email also.

I placed an order, two or three days he shipped, two or three days I got

Of course, the quality of the recordings vary...

Now, the only problem I have is I like old gangster movies,
like for example I ordered from this guy
http://moviesvideoman.bravehost.com
Baby Face Nelson with Mickey Rodney and "Portrait of a Mobster",
I'm willing to order more titles that are not on DVD or VHS, or on TV, or in theaters,
but I don't recognize most of those titles on his list
so I don't know which gangster movies are the good ones and which are the bad ones.
Or which ones I didn't see that I would like to see....
you only get movies you remember seeing...

I looked at top list of gangster movies, but they are short list...I've seen them all!

And I don't wanna watch no Scareface Women gangster movies!!!

Life is to complicated, I don't know what to do...

Have you seen _Quicksand_ with Mickey Rooney and Jeanne Cagney? Not really
a gangster movie but a very solid noir crime one. Good performances.

I think I saw that a few yrs ago. Is that the one where Rooney plays
an essentially decent guy, but he gets pulled into a life on the lam
by a set of circumstances that are beyond his control? I remember a
scene with Rooney & the cops on a wharf ...?

No, I haven't seen it, ...but I'm sticking only to gangster type,
someone with a criminal enterprise and
a machine gun.

Quicksand's a standout for me. Saw it as a kid (too young) & had creepy
nightmares afterwards. (I suppose I'd only watched movies with happy
endings theretofore.)

Okay, I saw Quicksand.

no machine guns...not exactly a gangster movie but I like all that stealing!

I guess guys nowadays instead of holding up a gas station to get money to take out some chick, they use
credit cards instead...they just don't pay it back...

so I still had to see a ganster movie, with a machine gun...
I picked a modern gangster move

in the process of trying to figure out the name I discovered they're going to make
a re-make of it in 2009, i think...
